May 2024:
Once More, With Feeling! Let’s Tell the World: #ImAMason
For the past two summers, we’ve run social media campaigns to encourage members to tell the world that #ImAMason. This month, we’re bringing it back—with the hopes of starting a worldwide trend!
Last summer, #ImAMason posts reached more than 6 million people—helping us spread the word about Freemasonry and promoting positive public awareness.
So, from May 1–14, we’re asking California Masons to post a message explaining why their membership is so important to them on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok (follow our new channel @CaliforniaMasons) with the hashtag #ImAMason. (It’s important you use the hashtag so we can see and share it!) This can be a simple written message, a photo, a selfie—whatever you like! Either way, by talking about Freemasonry and our membership with the people around us, we can inspire the next generation of would-be Masons to take that first step and knock on the door.
In fact, we know from studies that 91 percent of current members first learned about Masonry through a family member, friend, or coworker. Despite that, a whopping 63 percent of members don’t openly discuss Freemasonry with those around them—often out of an erroneous belief that they’re not allowed to, or that they have to wait until they’re asked directly. That isn’t true!
As Masons, we are able—and indeed encouraged—to talk about Freemasonry and what we get out of it with the people around us. That’s what the #ImAMason campaign is all about. Don’t know what to say? DOWNLOAD OUR NEW BOOKLET, titled Opening the Door, for some helpful and simple answers to common questions about Freemasonry. Or check out our brand-new webpage, WHAT IS FREEMASONRY, meant to give newcomers a basic sense of things. These are a starting point to help members discuss the fraternity in general and how it works. But the best explanations will come from real members discussing the real things they get out of it.
We can’t wait to see what you post!
I’m proud to be a Mason and over the last thirty years, I have grown in ways that I could have never imagined. I have developed relationships with my Brothers that have changed and enriched my life. I have been provided with opportunities to serve that have made proud to have made a positive difference. I am proud that I’m a Mason!

A Lodge does not thrive on ritual alone nor numbers or titles.
It flourishes when its members are engaged, fulfilled, and growing;
When each man is given the opportunity to do what he is passionate about while being shaped by Masonic principles.
Every Brother joins our Craft seeking something...
Some are drawn to philosophy and deeper knowledge, others to ritual and tradition, and some to the bonds of Brotherhood and service.
The strength of a Lodge lies in recognizing these passions and providing a space where each man can contribute in a way that is meaningful to him.
A Brother who finds purpose within the Lodge does not simply attend, he participates, he invests himself, and in doing so, he strengthens the entire fraternity.
But passion alone is not enough...
A Lodge must also be a place of growth and refinement.
This is why we whisper good counsel into the ears of our Brethren, ensuring that their efforts are guided by wisdom, integrity, and the principles of our Craft.
It is not enough to do; we must do so with purpose, guided by the lessons of Freemasonry.
When men are given the freedom to pursue their interests within the framework of Masonic virtue, they do more than fill seats, they build, lead, and inspire.
When mentorship is strong and Masonic teachings are lived, rather than merely spoken, the Lodge becomes a living, breathing force for good.
And when this happens, everything else, retention, harmony, and legacy, will naturally follow.
Are we providing that space for our Brethren?
Are we helping them find purpose within the Lodge while ensuring that every action is guided by the wisdom of our Craft?
If we do, the future of Freemasonry will take care of itself.

Uncertainty has a way of revealing what we truly trust.
When institutions tremble, relationships are strained, or our sense of identity wavers, we begin to see whether our foundation is solid...
or simply convenient. :/
In those moments, Freemasonry becomes more than tradition when practiced with depth and intention.
It becomes orientation.
The world outside may shift and shake, but the work we do within - the inner work - must remain steady.
The Lodge, with its order, symbols, and ritual, reflects something far more lasting than the chaos of the times.
Its ritual doesn’t just comfort, it confronts.
It asks us plainly:
Where is your center?
The point within the circle isn’t just a symbol, it’s a necessity.
In times of crisis, the untrained mind reaches outward, searching for rescue.
But the Mason, grounded in his obligations and familiar with his working tools, turns inward.
He seeks alignment, not escape.
Freemasonry does not offer distraction.
It offers structure.
The measured steps around the altar, the grip of a Brother’s hand, the invocation of sacred principle;
These repeated acts forge something deeper than memory.
They build habit, identity, and resilience.
So when the world seems to fall apart, the Mason does not.
He stands where he has always stood: between the compasses and the square.
Not to retreat, but to reenter the world with clarity, purpose, and composure.
Freemasonry doesn’t shield us from uncertainty.
It prepares us to meet it.
In a world that demands reaction, Freemasonry teaches us how to respond.
