A Blast for the Past

History was in the air as hundreds of Masons gathered this spring for four gala celebrations recognizing the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Grand Lodge of California. Meeting inside the Scottish Rite temples in San Diego, Pasadena, and Sacramento, and in the auditorium of San Francisco’s California Masonic Memorial Temple, a who’s-who of California Masons, friends, and families saluted the fraternity’s long and distinguished history—with no shortage of toasts, songs, and speeches. Says Steven Yeffa of Pleasanton № 321, who chaired the organizing committee, “What stuck out for me was the wonderful legacy that’s transpired over last 175 years: the charitable work we’ve done, the number of Masons we’ve initiated—men who’ve wanted to become better versions of themselves. I think it’s just absolutely profound what we’ve accomplished.” One highlight for Yeffa: Meeting the grand secretary of the Grand Lodge of Washington, D.C., one of five Masonic bodies that lent charters to California’s first lodges.

Mark the Occasion

Celebrate 175 years of California Freemasonry! To honor this anniversary, the Grand Lodge of California has partnered with the Los Angeles Fraternal Supply Company to offer a range of special commemorative gifts, including custom 175th-anniversary ties and stunning challenge coins.

These pieces are a perfect way to honor a newly installed lodge officer, give as a present to a special Mason in your life, or add to your own collection. Plus, proceeds from the Grand Lodge coin go to the California Masonic Foundation, supporting the Masonic Homes of California and public education programs.
