One night a month, the brothers of Naval Lodge No. 87 in Vallejo convert their lodge hall into a movie theater.
Since January the lodge has hosted monthly DeMolay movie night fundraisers – fun, informal gatherings designed to bring together Masonic youth, lodge members, and members of the surrounding community.
Move nights feature a buffet meal, cooked and served by DeMolay. In January, attendees were treated to spaghetti and “Lady and the Tramp”; in February, tuna casserole and “Finding Nemo.” The next movie night is scheduled for March 19.
Master V. Thomas Langford met with local DeMolay in early January to offer lodge support. Movie night was just one of the takeaways: The lodge has also set aside space in its online Trestleboard for youth orders to share news and promote events, and will turn out for this month’s dinner fundraiser for the local assembly of Rainbow Girls.
“Youth are an integral part of our formula for success as a lodge,” said V. Thomas Langford, Master of Naval Lodge. “[This] is an opportunity to support them and strengthen our fraternal ties.”
